Our Echocardiography department has a HP color doppler Echocardiograph. We are able to diagnose heart disease at high altitude, such as pulmonary artery pressure (PAP). The sea level normal values for PAP are around 12 mmHg. At high altitude in the city of La Paz 3510 m aobve sea level, the normal pressure is around 21 mmHg. So this is a fundamental parameter to observe particularly during disease.
We can also observe cardiac hypertrophy, valve anomalies, pleural effusions, abnormal intra-cardiac communications, cardiac output and many other important parameters of cardiac function at high altitude.
